Hey everyone, Levi here! As someone who helps families relocate to the Dallas-Fort Worth area every single day, I get asked one question all the time: "What does $750,000 actually buy you in Dallas right now?"

$750,000 is a sweet spot in today's market. The median home price across the Dallas metroplex sits around $500,000, so $750k puts you slightly above average. But here’s the kicker: location changes everything. Depending on where you look, $750k might get you a compact 1,700 sq. ft. historic fixer-upper near downtown, or a brand-new 3,400+ sq. ft. home on a massive lot out in the suburbs.

If I personally had $750,000 to spend on a home in Dallas today, here is how I’d break down my options across the Metroplex:

1. Close to Downtown: Old East Dallas, Lower Greenville & Lakewood

If you want quick access to downtown nightlife, trendy hotspots, and mature tree-lined streets, this area is hard to beat. Lakewood is easily one of my favorite neighborhoods in all of Dallas, but it’s tough to get into under $1M.

  • What $750k Gets You: Smaller, older homes (think 1,600–1,800 sq. ft. 1940s-1950s ranch-style homes or historic builds).
  • The Trade-off: You’re compromising on square footage and modern layouts, and you'll likely need to do some interior updates (cabinets, flooring, paint).
  • The Perkm: Incredible location, mature tree canopies, larger lot space compared to modern builds, and top-tier school zones like Lakewood Elementary School.

2. The Central Value Sweet Spot: Richardson

If you want central access to both downtown Dallas and northern hubs like Plano or Frisco, Richardson is my personal "dark horse."

  • What $750k Gets You: Beautiful mid-century modern or 1960s updated ranch homes. You can get around 2,100–2,500 sq. ft. on generous 0.3+ acre lots.
  • The Highlights: Many homes here have been fully remodeled with updated kitchens, wide-plank flooring, and even private backyard pools with massive lot space.
  • Why I Love It: Unbeatable value per square foot while keeping your commute convenient in every direction.

3. Established Suburbia: Plano

Moving north into Plano, your money starts stretching differently depending on whether you’re looking east or west.

  • East vs. West Plano: West Plano tends to hold higher price tags, but in the $750k range across Plano, you’ll find classic 1980s and 1990s housing stock.
  • What to Expect: 2,500 to 3,000+ sq. ft. homes with standard suburban layouts.
  • The Vibe: Established, safe neighborhoods, good school districts, and great community parks. You may see original '90s finishes that need a personal touch, but you get turn-key stability.

4. Booming Suburban Growth: Frisco, Prosper & Celina

If you're looking for modern living, master-planned amenities, or brand-new builds, heading further north along the North Texas Tollway is key.

  • Frisco: You can score a 3,700 sq. ft. 4–5 bedroom Texas Traditional home built in the mid-2000s, or jump into high-density new builds near mega-developments like The Fields. The trade-off in Frisco is smaller lot sizes (lot-maxing).
  • Prosper: While Prosper’s median home price is around $900,000, $750k can still land you a 3,400 sq. ft. move-in ready home, or an older 1990s home sitting on a full 1-acre lot right near Preston Road. Plus, you get access to Prosper ISD.
  • Celina: If you want brand-new construction from top builders, Celina is essentially one big collection of booming master-planned communities like The Parks at Wilson Creek. You get brand-new 3,000+ sq. ft. floor plans at great price-per-square-foot ratios.

5. Historic Charm: Downtown McKinney

For fans of character and community soul, Historic McKinney offers the best downtown square in all of North Dallas.

  • What $750k Gets You: 100-year-old historic homes with real hardwood floors, original shiplap, and cozy porch covers, sitting on big quarter-acre corner lots.
  • The Vibe: Walkable streets, local boutiques, small-town charm, and endless character.

Summary: Where Would I Buy?

It all comes down to what you prioritize:

  1. For Character & Location: Old East Dallas or Historic McKinney.
  2. For Space, Lot Size & Central Access: Richardson.
  3. For Big Square Footage & New Builds: Frisco, Prosper, or Celina.
